Inspired by a rockstar

Karen Walker Sunglasses / UGG Scarf (c/o) / J.Crew Shirt (old) / Zara Jacket and Jeans / Pour La Victoire Boots (c/o – old) Leather Purse (from the markets in Morocco)
In all honesty, this outfit was inspired by the lovely Naomi and something she recently wore on her Instagram. I found it interesting and refreshing how she combined army green, lavender and stripes, so I gave it a whirl.
I’ve been a huge fan of her blog, The Rockstar Diaries, for a while now, which documents her life and her adorable family, and I admire how she always wears stripes, bright colors, bold lipstick and hats. What a gorgeous girl she is, and those babies? Don’t get me started. Love. If you haven’t checked out her blog, do so now – it’s a gem. xo

For those of you that follow me of  Twitter, I’m assuming you already read about my amazing blue palazzo pants. I’ll admit that I was unsure of them at first and almost returned them. I mean, they probably aren’t the most flattering pants I own and they reminded me a lot of Jasmine’s pants in Aladin. But after putting them aside for a day, then retrying them on for the millionth time, I decided to embrace them and bolding wore them out for a day of running errands.

Within minutes of swishing down the sidewalk, I fell head over heels in love and instead of feeling like Jasmine, I felt chic and graceful, strutting through the Soho streets. So much so, that I couldn’t bear to take them off and continued to wear them to an evening event for One Kings Lane at The Standard Hotel. Clearly, the pants are the statement piece here, but I added a few subtle pops of orange to my bangle stack for a bit of contrast.

For the other half of this ensemble, I opted for my new favorite sequined top once again, (yes, I wore it multiple times in a very short period of time, that is how much I love it) but can’t wait to wear a peach or green blouse with these blue billowing beauties for some real tride and true color blocking. Bring it. xoxo

P.S. Thank you to the gorgeous Emily from Into The Gloss for wearing these pants in the first place and inspiring me and Karen to desperately want them. And thank you to Karen for persuading me to buy them!) xoxo

I cannot tell a lie. This outfit (and hair) was once again inspired by the stylish Blair, of Atlantic-Pacific. I put my own spin on this ensemble, but what drew me to this look in the first place was the buttoned-up blouse and how she paired it with something as simple a basic gray crewneck sweater creating a chic, ladylike combination.

But last weekend when I walked into the bedroom, wearing my blouse buttoned up all the way with my bejeweled neck decoration tied just so that it fell right beneath the collar, and asked A what he thought, he looked at me and said, “What’s up man-shirt.” Men and women really do have different ideas about what’s stylish. Le sigh.

But, I can’t really complain, because lucky for me, A does in fact recognize when something is stylish in the fashion world even when/if it’s not his favorite thing in “real life.” In the end, I do my best to always try and mix it up to create a happy medium.

I’m curious…does your boyfriend ever balk at anything you wear?

***Disclaimer: Don’t worry, A is extremely supportive and always makes it clear that he does not care what I wear as long as it makes me happy, but that if I ask his opinion on an outfit, he will always tell me his honest opinion no matter what. Gotta love an honest guy. :)

copy-cat Urban Outfitters Earrings / Vintage Bird Blouse (20Twenty in Ballard) / H&M Belt / F21 Skirt / Black Tights / Aldo Shoes (c/o)

This outfit was directly inspired by what Kendi wore yesterday. Is that creepy? I hope not, because I am constantly inspired by my blogger buddies and this time was no different. That is how smitten I was over her outfit. Also, I love black and tan together, as well as animal printed blouses, so I dug around in my closet and this is what I came up with.

P.S. I now need a shirt with foxes on it, like this one!

Inspired By: Cropped Cardigan

Two things: 1. I will own a sweater like the burnt orange cropped cardigan in the first photo. 2. I will wear it and recreate the outfit above.

How cute is this ensemble? Seeing that it is winter and super cold out, the only things I will add to my look will be tights to wear under the socks, a large nubby knit scarf and a cozy jacket. Done and done.

Happy Friday!

xoxo

Inspired By: Bridget Bardot

DSC_0201

Happy Thursday! Aren’t you so happy it’s almost the weekend? Okay, so before I start into this post, let me just preface by saying that, A. I don’t think I look like Bridget Bardot, and B. I know that my dramatic eye makeup isn’t identical to that of Bridet Bardot’s famous smoky cat eye look, but that is why the title “Inspired By” is so appropriate: I was inspired, therefore I interpreted and created my own version of her look. :)

To honest, I don’t usually take a lot of time with my makeup, but lately I have become more and more interested in learning the tricks of the trade (more to come on that soon). So, the other day, I needed a break from staring at my computer screen, so instead I stared into a mirror for thirty minutes, and worked on perfecting my version of the seductive/dramatic eye.

This is what I came up with…

DSC_0200

I didn’t use a ton of product besides eyeliner, and just stuck with pale pinks on my lids and lips. I drew a couple coats of heavy liner across my eye, lined the bottom with a black pencil liner and finished the look off with many coats of black mascara. To add just a bit of color, I swiped some light pink gloss on my lips, et voila!

DSC_0185{Don’t be too frightened by this photo. I promise, I don’t usually walk around with this facial expression on my face. I think the flash might have shocked my eyes.. just a tad.}

Needless to say, I felt very glamorous when I was done, even though I was wearing shorts and a crop top.

What is your favorite makeup style?

What look makes you feel like a million bucks?

inspired by: katy of kansas couture

short-skirt

I have been revisiting this photo quite a few times ever since Katy, of Kansas Couture, posted it early last week. I met her last September at the Weardrobe Conference, and she really is this adorable in person, and super sweet too! Anyway, the thing is, I own this top, which is actually a striped dress from H&M, as well as the metal braided necklace she’s wearing. I also have floral skirts that I love, but the one used in this outfit really does it for me. So, because I love this look so much, I decided that my goal is to try and recreate this look as best I can. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? Stay tuned this week to see what I come up with!

Thanks for the inspiration, Katy! xoxo

My Outfit: Channeling Rachel Green

passion pit-silo

As you know, I went to see Passion Pit live for the first time ever. My friend Liz and her friend Rob went together and it rocked our socks off! I was actually sore the next day from dancing so hard. Anyway, I decided to debut my plaid pants that reminded me of Rachel Green circa 1994.

**To be specific, I am referring to the episode where she gets a tattoo of a heart on her hip and she is afraid Ross won’t like it. Yes, I am a huge Friend’s fan. But really, who isn’t.**Read more
