Overalls Remix: Casual vs. Dressy

Which look is your favorite?

One question I often get from clients is, how to style overalls without looking too young or juvenile. I love wearing them and find them pretty versatile, but it’s true, you do need to know what to pair them with to make sure you don’t end up looking costumey or frumpy. So, here are two examples of how I’ve styled them recently: on the left you’ll find a more casual, dressed down version and on the right is a more polished and dressy option.

Denim x Camo

GET THE LOOK:

I bought these camo pants a while ago from Madewell and was so obsessed with them. The print was having a comeback moment and I was fully on the bandwagon. I wore them constantly. Then after a while I “out-camo-ed” myself, decided I needed a break from anything that resembled it and they have been stored away ever since.

Lucky for me, I rediscovered them this past month and decided that I still did in fact like them! I wanted to update them a bit, so I grabbed a pair of scissors and did a rough cut across the hems to make them a few inches shorter and less polished looking. What do you guys think?

Outfit Remix: The Banana Republic Sloan Pant

I first styled these pants on the blog last week, and today wanted to share how I remixed them into this monochromatic ensemble. It was a lot of fun to play with the different shades of gray to create this look, which I felt gave the overall outfit interesting depth and texture.

Today’s post is a fun round up of last week’s outfits and showing how I remixed them! I chose to create both a casual and dressy version with each sweater to show how easy it can be to change a look by simply swapping out your accessories. My Favorite Chunky Cable Knit Sweater

GET THE LOOK:

I’ll admit, it’s been a bit tricky trying to find a good rhythm over the past month since there has been so much transition in my life lately, but luckily this past Saturday, my Dad I decided to carve out some time to head into downtown Ballard and take some much needed outfit photos. Photographing fall clothing and content is always my favorite and I left feeling energized and inspired, which felt so great.
One of the issues right now is that I don’t have all of my clothes with me since I am popping back and forth between the coasts at the moment. So I had to work with the limited pieces I have with me, which luckily included this cozy, cream colored chunky knit. It’s old and from Zara but it’s still my favorite. For this look, I wanted to go a bit more casual, so I chose to throw on a button down underneath for a fun layering aspect along with my favorite distressed jeans, and my trusty Danskos to tie it all together!

Outfit Remix: French Connection Striped Dress, Two Ways

Outfit Details:

This striped dress is probably one of my favorite casual dresses I own because of how comfortable it is – the stretchy material allows you to move around freely but doesn’t ride up or feel too constricting. Plus the striped pattern makes it super versatile and a perfect transitional dress. Here are two ways I wore it back in New York earlier this summer. Which look is your favorite? Outfit Remix: Pink Marimekko Shirt

Isn’t it fun to look back and see how you wear things depending on the season and weather? The look on the left was taken back in November 2016 and the right was taken this month! I love how swapping out a neutral bootie and a faux fur jacket for a pink heel and a camel car coat, quickly and subtly changed the feel of these two looks. These are sometimes the best kinds of remixes because they are easy and don’t take a ton of brain power. You just swap one piece out for another and there you go! Which outfit is your favorite?

Remix Roundup: Green Khaki Pants, Three Ways

GET THE LOOK:

You guys know that I love doing outfit remixes so it was a lot of fun creating these three looks around one pair of pants. I bought them from Zara years ago and they have still remained one of my favorite pairs that I own. Unfortunately, they are no longer available but here are two options that are very similar (here and here). I just love how three looks can be so different, yet still have so many similarities. For instance, I used the same hat in all three outfits and in two out of the three looks, I am wearing the same bag, earrings and sunglasses! Through these types of posts, I hope to show you how to create interesting outfits and remind you guys to shop your closet and remix your favorite pieces.
