How To Dress Up Denim Overalls

Every time I wear these overalls from Paige, I get so many compliments on them! I think it must be because of their fit and length. I love that they have a slight boyfriend slouch without looking sloppy so they still look cute with sneakers but are also just fitted just enough to be able to dress them up with heels.

GET THE LOOK:

Sunglasses | Turtleneck | Overalls | Blazer | Heels

About this look: In my opinion, there are a few things that can immediately elevate any look and those pieces are: turtlenecks, blazers and heels. I can’t think of a time when I’ve worn one of those items and not felt pulled together or chic. No matter how oversized the sweater or blazer was, I always felt stylish. And, let’s be honest, you can’t really go wrong with a classic pair of heels, right?

In this case, since the main piece of clothing I wanted to style were the overalls, which generally run on the more casual side, I decided to take all three items I just mentioned and pair everything together! I kept the turtleneck and blazer I used fairly fitted and tailored, which is key so as to not to overwhelm or “lose” the overalls and picked cognac heels to play off my sunglasses. What do you guys think? I could totally see myself wearing this to a creative meeting, or lunch with a client!

How To Wear The Sloan Pant From Banana Republic

GET THE LOOK:

Blazer (old via TJ Maxx) | Shirt | Pants | Shoes | Sunglasses | Lipstick

I can’t believe I have had these pants hanging in my closet since the end of July! But it was too hot to wear them until now so I held off styling them because I knew I wanted to do a remix with them once the weather got a little chillier outside.

As someone who doesn’t have a corporate job or go into an office every day, I don’t often wear slacks or a dress pants, so what I really like about these Sloan pants by Banana Republic is, they can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. The material is super stretchy and comfortable and I love how the waistband is really flattering. I cuffed mine up one fold since I wanted them to hit right at my ankles (will most likely get them tailored eventually) but if you need to wear them a little longer for work, the length is perfect for that.

This outfit is something I could potentially wear to a meeting in my industry, which is more on the creative side. Or I could see myself wearing this out for drinks if I wanted to look sharp and sophisticated without feeling stuffy. The problem I’ve always found with traditional work clothing is it tends to feel frumpy and conservative. I know that some people are required to wear full suits and dress pants and tops to work, but if you have to look super buttoned up, you can still have a little fun with your accessories at least! I like to incorporate color through my shoes, lipstick and jewelry. In this case, I opted for no necklaces or bracelets and instead let the shoes and red lip act as the focal points!

Cozy Knits & Overalls

When the weather starts getting chilly, all I want to wear are big cozy sweaters. I dug this one out of my closet that I’ve had forever and totally fell back in love with it. It feels like I’m wearing a big shawl or blanket but in the form of a cardigan, which is kind of the best combination especially if you just want something easy to throw on over a t-shirt and jeans.

GET THE LOOK:

Scarf | Sweater | Tee | Overalls | Shoes

I normally would slip on my white Nike sneakers but for some reason I felt like wearing these clogs instead. I added the head scarf as we were walking out the door and really liked how it added to the overall look.

I can’t tell you how many times I picked up two handfuls of wet leaves and tried to get the perfect action shot of them falling down around me. It was pretty cold out and drizzly so this one will have to do!

P.S. Check out this post from the last time I was photographed throwing leaves up into the air. :)

How To Wear A Vintage Rock T-Shirt

I find that if I am not running to events or heading to a work dinner, my daily go-to outfit for running errands or hanging with friends is pretty casual with some sort of fun twist. Usually it consists of jeans, a soft tee, booties and my favorite leather jacket, at least while it’s still leather jacket weather. Right now I am loving cropped denim and when it comes to the type of tee I wear, it can range anywhere from a super plain white v-neck to something a bit more preppy like a striped crew neck or I might go in the complete opposite direction and rock a vintage music t-shirt! They can be hard to come by, so if you find a good one, make sure to snag it! (Think of scooping up this muscle tee next!)

Outfit Details:

Sunglasses: Eddie Bauer | Jacket: IRO | Jeans: Joe’s Jeans | Boots: La Canadienne

In today’s post, I wanted to show you how I styled this Def Leppard tee because let’s be honest, it’s pretty out there, at least compared to some others I’ve seen. The design is bold and and bright, which might make it feel like it could be hard to pull off if you just saw it by itself and not within an outfit.

My take on styling it was to make everything else fairly muted and let the shirt be the “hero piece” or focal point. I knew I wanted to channel more of a rocker vibe, so I gave my hair loose waves, tousled it a bit, and accessorized with oversized sunnies and pointy toed booties for a bit of edge.

I’d love to know how you would style a similar shirt and what issues (if any) you might come up against when trying to work one of these tees into an outfit. I think another really cute way to wear a rocker shirt would be to dress it up a bit with heels and a super structured blazer. Let me know your thoughts on this look so make sure to leave me a comment below!

How To Elevate A Oversized Chunky Knit Sweater

GET THE LOOK:

Sunglasses |Sweater | Jeans | Heels | Bag | Lipstick

It’s amazing how a pair of heels can instantly elevate any outfit. For example, if I had chosen to wear a pair of sneakers with this ensemble instead of pumps, I would look considerably more casual, particularly because of the ripped/distressed jeans and broken-in leather bucket bag. And although this is not a dressy look by any means, the fact that I chose to wear these camel heels instead, made me feel stylish and pulled together, creating the perfect look for dinner or drinks out with friends!

How To Dress Up Denim Cutoffs

Buttondown with denim shorts and Kenneth Cole denim heeled sandals 1

GET THE LOOK:

Sunglasses | Shirt | Shorts | Sandals (gift) | Bag (gift)

I know I’ve been wearing these shorts a lot on here lately but I’m telling you, when I find a good pair of denim cutoffs, which can be hard to find, I essentially live in them during the summer. They go with everything and can be dressed up and down simply by swapping out the shoes you are wearing. Case in point, these heeled sandals immediately elevate the look, whereas if I had chosen to wear Birkenstocks instead, the whole aesthetic would feel totally different.

Side note, if you like Birkenstocks and are curious how to style them, check out Wednesday’s post and this video for style ideas!

How To Take Your Swimsuit from Beach to Brunch!

monterosso-umbrellas-cinque-terre

(This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Lands’ End. All opinions are 100% mine.)

Can you guys believe that Memorial Day weekend is just a few days away?! To kickoff summer, Lands’ End has declared that today (May 23rd) is National Swimsuit Day and are offering 50% off their entire swim collection plus free expedited shipping for Friday delivery to guarantee that you’ll get your swimsuit before the long holiday weekend! How awesome is that?

Finding a suit that fits just right, can be quite the difficult task and feel really daunting, but luckily Lands’ End offers assistance online with their Swim Finder, which is an interactive tool to help discover the best swimsuits based upon body shape and preferences, while also providing tips on to how to take proper swimsuit measurements. The brand also has swim fit experts on-hand, whether you prefer calling or using their live chat, they are ready to help you find the perfect-fitting swimsuit! Personally, I always struggle to find a two piece that fits both my top and bottom since I run larger in the bust area but if I aim to fit the top, the bottoms tend to run too big. Luckily, at Lands’ End, you can mix and match the collections to find a suit that is juuuuust right for your body shape!

So to celebrate swimsuits, warmer weather and long weekends, I teamed up with the brand to show you four of my favorite suits and how you can easily transition your swimwear from the beach to brunch (preferably with a mimosa waiting) in just minutes. First up, this cute striped one piece!

Striped Swimsuit

I love mixing and matching patterns and really like how these printed shorts look paired with this classic striped one piece. I kept the rest of the look fairly neutral to keep the focal point on the suit and then draped a chambray button down over my shoulders as a finishing touch.

Floral Swimsuit

For this floral and feminine two-piece I wanted to draw out the green in the otherwise pink and white pattern, so I grabbed my dark olive utility shirt to use as a “cover up” and then went more casual by slipping on my favorite oversized denim shorts, which actually used to be my Dad’s work jeans! Then I brought in a little pattern play with my striped espadrilles but kept the rest of the look pretty classic with a traditional Panama hat, cognac leather tote and tortoise shell sunnies.

Palm Leaf Swimsuit

This might be my favorite suit next to the striped one. How cute is the palm leaves?! I integrated pattern play once again, and love how the blue pastel stripes compliment the muted pink and green leaf print. I wanted to keep this outfit light and bright so I opted for white sandals and a canvas tote, and topped the whole look off with my favorite woven straw hat and John Lennon-esque sunglasses.

lands end paisley print suit

Paisley Swimsuit

I went for a slightly dressier style when styling this paisley swimsuit and wore these fuchsia shorts that I felt matched well with the pattern, and really pulled out the pretty purple color. Then instead of draping the chambray shirt over my shoulders like before, I decided to tie it up at the waist, which helps defines my shape and creates a nice juxtaposition next to the flowy material of the shorts.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post and let me know if you have any questions! xo
