My Dad took these photos back in December when it was actually warm enough to shoot without a coat on! He actually helped me pose and said I looked like I was right out of the 70s. I took that as a very big compliment and let him direct me to get the right “70s” look (glasses down on nose, stand with a slight slouch, give me a smirk etc.) however he thought best. Thanks for everything, Dad! xoxo

Inspired By: Kendi Everyday

Hence the title of this post, I’m pretty sure that the lovely Kendi from the popular blog, Kendi Everyday, is the inspiration behind this checked shirt. She has worn this gingham version quite a few times in different ways, and never fails to look adorable in it, thus leaving me wanting one of my very own. So, you can imagine my excitement when I came across this perfect piece while shopping around in Seattle with A. Plus, it was like $9, so it was clearly a no brainer.

I can only imagine all the different ways I can and will wear this button-down all year round, so I’d like to thank you, dear Kendi, for providing the inspiration in the first place. Also, I’d like to send out a thank you to the random person who sold this awesome shirt to Buffalo Exchange. Rock on.

My Outfit: Sprucing

DSC_0163

This is the faux fur collar that came with this jacket, which I also wore over a bright pink blouse in this video, which you can also see here (just click the box that says #1).

I used the collar as a simple touch to glam up this simple but cute cozy knit cardigan (also seen here). Try this easy trick with any faux fur neck piece that you might have to spruce up an old sweater or in this case, a camel cape.

My Outfit: A Girl and Her Dog

This outfit stemmed from a two things: cold weather, and just wanting to be comfortable. But, I think that even when you are dressing comfortably, you can add just a few touches, such as simple accessories, as a way to keep your outfit looking comfy-chic rather than comfy-bleak.

(Disclaimer: I’m not suggesting that if you don’t always dress up a casual and basic look that you are bleak looking! If you feel great in whatever you put on, that will shine through more than any sparkly bracelet. This is just me sharing my way of spicing up an otherwise fairly simple but cute outfit :) Easy, peasy! )

In this case, I tossed on a few “diamond” bracelets for some sparkle, along with a soft, relaxed beanie and my new favorite thrifted leather booties. As for the rest of the outfit, I love my Vintage Revolution jeans. They have newly become a favorite because they are fitted in all the right places, still stretchy and flexible, but never saggy. Basically a great pair of jeans that will be appearing more regularly on the blog. You’ve seen the t-shirt here, dressed up in a completely different way, and this red sweater is another JC Penney American Living find. I found that this cozy knitted grandpa cardigan is a great option to throw over a tee and jeans to add some fun dimension and color to an outfit. Case in point. :)

Thursday Giveaway!

Olsenboye Giveaway

I have really loved partaking in all these fun giveaways over the past couple weeks and I hope you have enjoyed them too! To carry on with the holiday spirit of gift giving, today’s treat is this flirty, polka-dotted number from Olsenboye (Marykate and Ashley Olsen’s line for JC Penney). Doesn’t this seem like the perfect party dress for New Year’s eve?! I was lucky enough to have my very own dress sent over to style up anyway I wanted. So, here is my first take on this playful LBD. (If you know me or are familiar with this blog, you’ll know to expect a remix coming shortly!)

Seeing that it’s not quite New Year’s Eve, I still wanted to get some wear out of this dress by styling it in a way that could be appropriate for wearing to an office Christmas party or to dinner and drinks with friends. That’s why instead of opting for bare arms and legs, I layered with a polkda-dotted blouse (which matches the dots on the skirt!), bright tights and a kicky leopard overcoat.

This little beauty of a coat has a backstory, and it goes like this:
I had been looking for a cute leopard or animal print jacket for some time now, but didn’t want to spend a fortune. I was having a hard time finding what I wanted at an affordable price, until I spotted (ha, ha) this jacket at H&M. The only fallback was that the price tag read $70. Seeing that I was/am on a budget, it didn’t seem practical to purchase a lightweight coat in December, especially when I could spend that amount on at least 3 items in H&M or 7 pieces at F21. This is how my brain works. For reals. So anyway, I let it go and left the store, proud that I had walked away. But the coat stuck in my mind. I would look at it from time to time when passing an H&M, and then the other night after heading home from working with a client, I decided to check out a huge sale at the store on the UES. Let’s just say it was my lucky day. Not only was my beloved jacket on sale for $20, ($20!) but another dress that I had a similar love affair with (but had put back…apparently I do have will power) went from $60 to $20. So, at this point, my head was spinning, but almost fell off when I saw that this black polka-dotted shirt was marked down to $15. Again, something that I liked in the past, but was more than I wanted to spend, so I put it back. I guess patience really is a virtue because I left the store one happy girl.

My Outfit: One Fine Day

DSC_0028East Village Frames / Charlotte Russe Necklace (gifted) / Charley 5.0 Denim Blouse (gifted) / Scarf (gifted) / Tulle Jacket (gifted) / Thrifted Belt (Goodwill) / Wool Skirt (gift) / Thrifted Woven Flats (20Twenty Vintage) / Forever 21 Rings

Last week, while my friend Nicole was in town, I had her act as my photographer from time to time, and needless to day, she did a great job. We took a little walk around the neighborhood and found a quiet street to take a few shots. I have to say I really like the mix of colors and textures in this outfit. One interesting thing about this look, is that each piece of this ensemble was either gifted or thrifted, minus the glasses and the rings. I recently acquired this lovely Tulle jacket, and scarf from a Red Light PR Preview that I went to last week. They represent a ton of fabulous brands, which I’ll share all the photos with you soon, and let me take this gorgeous coat home with me! The denim shirt and necklace were gifted and the skirt was given to me by friend Ayn-Monique, shown here. Lastly, I thrifted the belt and shoes during my trips back to Seattle. Somehow they all made it into quite a lovely outfit together, if I do say myself! :)

romp-around

With warmer, more humid weather on the horizon, I want something that I can just throw on without much fuss, but that still leaves me feeling cool and breezy. My solution? The Onesie! Or also known as a jumpsuit or romper. Here are a few of my faves.

Day and Night: The Maxi Dress

I was inspired by a look I saw in the most recent Lucky magazine, where they layered a long maxi dress with a blazer and turtleneck. I became intrigued with it and decided to create two looks—one for day, one for night—based around one dress. Here’s what I came up with! Enjoy! SPxx
