Gifting & Styling: The Shops At Columbus Circle

DAY1_1 When I first moved to New York, I lived on the Upper West Side. I loved it up there because it felt safe and quaint, yet still a part of the big city. After living there for a year I became familiar with the different avenues and eventually made my way down to Columbus Circle to explore, which is on 59th street. The Shops at Columbus Circle are pretty amazing and quite a destination spot if you ask me. There are so many stores there plus the fact that there is a huge Whole Foods, an Equinox, plus many restaurants and more.

DAY1_2

Side note: For those of you that have been following my blog for years now, might remember this post I did a four years back with Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle. So when the brand approached me again about working together, it was a no brainer!

DAY1_4

DAY1_3

So with all that said, I recently partnered with The Shops at Columbus Circle with the plan of action to spot five lucky people shopping and gift them great pieces from The Shops that would complement what they were already wearing. You can read on to see how the weekend went!

DAY1_15

First off, I saw these two cute friends and their adorable babies and new they would be the perfect fit for the items I had in store. One being a pair of classic black Ray Ban Wayfarers from Solstice Sunglass Boutique, and the other, a grey Eileen Fisher circle scarf. They already looked so cute in what they were wearing, that is was so easy to style them with one extra accessory each.

DAY1_11

For Jessica, I thought that they Rayban wayfarers would be the perfect piece to edge up her outfit a bit. The size of the frames looked great on her face and her little boy seemed to love them too, so it was a win win.

And for Tiffany, I liked her striped dress a lot and thought that the grey circle scarf would really complement the colors she was already wearing plus her overall look.
DAY1_8
Next up came Todd, who was visiting with his wife from Florida and they were about to get a glass of wine after shopping all day before I snagged him! I really dug his relaxed style but loved how he still looked put together. I knew that just a couple accessories could elevate his look in no time.

DAY1_5

I chose this wool grey tie from J.Crew for him and a blue and white silk pocket square from Thomas Pink, just for fun, to take his afternoon look straight to pre-dinner cocktails.

DAY2_16

The next girl I found was named Julie and she was just shopping around killing some time before meeting a friend for lunch. Since my gift was a few bracelets from Satya Jewelry, I thought her outfit would be perfect with the addition of some pretty black and gold bangles. They accented her classic gold watch so well and I loved that they played off her already white and black ensemble.

DAY2_13

After Julie, I spotted another young girl shopping around named Katelyn, who I thought would be perfect for the next gift! I had found some really pretty delicate necklaces in Montmartre and since her original look was fairly straightforward and simple with no jewelry, I knew this girl’s outfit would be even more perfect with just the addition of these two pieces.

DAY2_7

Lastly I ran into such a sweet guy named Eric coming out of the New York Running Company Store. He already had a great athletic look going on, but was only wearing a t-shirt and shorts. As the weather starts to get chillier, I thought that the pullover shell I had selected from the store would be a great and practical piece for not only seasonal running but also just hanging out with friends.

DAY2_5

DAY2_6

The day was super successful and I think everyone went home happy with their gifts. It was a great time and I loved meeting new people and spending time in such an awesome space. If you are ever in town or live up near the park, make sure to head on over to The Shops at Columbus Circle and check it out! xo

Styling: A Day To Night Experience At Columbus Circle

DSC_0283

DSC_0268

For those of you just joining us, to quickly recap, I was recently asked to be a part of Time Warner Center’s first ever fashion blogger campaign called Fashion Blogger Forecast. The challenge at hand was to style looks inspired by Time Warner Center Experiences, so I chose to create outfits for a picnic in Columbus Circle with treats from Bouchon Bakery, followed by drinks at A Voce. You can check out the first post from Monday, here.

***Also stay tuned a little later today for a link to my very own webisode documenting my fun day at Time Warner Center, as well as an opportunity to win a signature piece from one of my looks!***

For my first experience, which was to have a picnic at Columbus Circle, I headed to Bouchon Bakery to pick out treats for “A” and I to share that afternoon. There were so many things to choose from, but I finally opted for a traditional slice of quiche Lorraine, a butter lettuce salad with blue cheese and a couple of twice-baked ham and cheese croissants. For dessert I went a little nuts and loaded up on pain au chocolate, multiple macaroons and a cinnamon roll the size of my head. Good stuff. I couldn’t wait to share all my goodies and my new outfit with “A”.

I grabbed my Bouchon bags and made my way outside to find us a spot for our picnic.

But before I ran out to meet “A” I had to swing into Eileen Fisher to pick up a last minute touch for my outfit…a striped scarf!

DSC_0284Outfit Details: J.Crew Panama Hat / RayBan Aviators / Eileen Fisher Scarf in Linen Ticking / J.Crew Shirt (mine was on sale, but here is a something similar) Banana Republic Sleeveless Trench / Cole Haan Air Delfina Back Zip Wedges / Divine Rights of Denim (c/o) / H&M Bag

So, let’s talk about my outfit for a second. To be honest, when I think of picnics, I think of plaid, gingham and checkered prints. And where better than to find a shirt like that? J.Crew. As I walked in, I was delighted to see that they had a wall full of exactly what I was looking for. I picked out a light pink checked button down because I wanted the overall look to have a light-hearted, springtime feel to it.

Next mission was to find a hat. I turned and looked at the other wall behind me, and was pleased as punch to see a hat wall! I immediately went over and selected a traditional Panama hat to accessorize my look. Gotta keep that sun off your face. I knew that I wanted the rest of the outfit to be fairly simple, as in easy-to-take-off layers (my sleeveless trench is the perfect seasonal piece) and comfy, worn in jeans.

So what else did I need? Shoes! Because the whole outfit was fairly muted, I knew that I had to add a pop of color to liven it up. So, what better than a bright Kelly Green pair of Cole Haan wedges to do the trick! I had recently painted my toenails a bubblegum pink, which looked super cute in my green espadrilles, and reminded me of sliced watermelon. Very in sync with my picnic theme I must say.

Trend Tip: Whether it’s a subdued pastel checkered print or a bold vibrant floral pattern, my forecast for spring is that patterns are going to abundant throughout the upcoming season.

“A” showed up looking adorable in his checked shirt (yes, we sort of matched) and we happily munched away on our treats. After relaxing for a bit, it was time to head back inside and finish styling my second outfit for the evening.

Second challenge at hand? Style an outfit fit for fancy date drinks at A Voce…

I knew I wanted to create a different feel for my evening attire, something more romantic and feminine. Seeing that the weather was supposed to get a bit chilly later on, I swung into Wolford for some of the silkiest tights I’ve ever felt in my life. For my overall look, I stayed basic on the bottom—opted for black tights, heels and skirt—but knew I wanted some contrast on top.

My next stop was United Colors of Benetton where I spotted a tan polka dotted blouse with a pretty neckline. I knew that it would pair well with my cognac-colored bag I picked up at J.Crew, so now all I needed was a cheeky accessory to spice up the whole look. I remember seeing a skinny leopard print belt at J.Crew in my earlier shopping trip and went back to snag it.

Remember how I mentioned that I think patterns are going to be huge for spring? Well, I think that another trend is pattern mixing. This can be tricky; but if done right, can look amazing. As much as I love a bold pattern-mixed outfit, I knew I wanted to stay classic that evening, so I simply slipped on the animal print belt for some subtle pattern play. It still felt fun and playful, yet still chic and demure for my date night with “A”.

Trend Tip: Pattern mixing has been floating around the blogosphere as well as strutting down the runways, but don’t let the idea of trying to match opposite patterns scare you. Start out small like I did and add in small doses of this trend to get comfortable. You might find that you like what you see!

We had a lovely time at A Voce where we sipped champagne and chatted about our fun-filled day (and all the sweets we had consumed) at Time Warner Center. The Shops at Columbus Circle really is a hub for all your needs, whether you’re grocery shopping at Whole Foods, want to have drinks at Stone Rose or shop for clothing, makeup or housewares at the multitude of stores that are offered. It is definitely a special place to visit and I highly recommend you swing in the next time you are in the area!

Secret Project Revealed: Time Warner Center’s Fashion Blogger Forecast!

I am beyond excited to finally share my news with you all! I was chosen, along with three other New York-based bloggers to be a part of Time Warner Center’s first ever fashion blogger campaign called Fashion Blogger Forecast! The challenge at hand? To style looks inspired by Time Warner Center Experiences. I chose to create looks for a picnic in Columbus Circle with treats from Bouchon Bakery, followed by drinks at restaurant hotspot A Voce.

But before I reveal photos from our lovely day and evening, (and what I wore!) here are some fun shots (even more to come Wednesday!) from my day of shopping at The Shops at Columbus Circle at Time Warner Center.

DSC_0048

My day began by heading uptown, extremely excited for my day of shopping. I couldn’t wait to explore all the amazing stores inside. My first stop was J.Crew and I was immediately drawn to the wall of hats, full of all different shapes and sizes. I have been seeing a huge resurgence of the Panama Hat, which has always been a classic, but I love seeing it styled in both traditional and non traditional ways. I also hit up Cole Haan, Wolford, Eileen Fisher and United Colors of Benetton and found some stellar items in each lovely shop.

Saw lots of sparkles, sequins and stripes at J.Crew!

You know I love a good cognac-colored accessory. Hello handbag!

A fun behind-the-scenes shot of Allen shooting me for the video! I can’t wait to show you the final product on Wednesday.

DSC_0139

I saw punchy hues in Cole Haan and Eileen Fisher, and United Colors of Benetton was full of all sorts of trench coats in various colors, which I think is going to be big for spring. Again, a trench is such a classic piece, but it all depends on how you style it and make it your own. I was over the moon to finally purchase my first pair of Wolford tights because they are super silky yet still really durable, and they sit comfortably around your waist without pinching your stomach.

So, with all that said, my inspiration for my outfits started from the fact that “A” and I are going to Paris in less than a month. Seeing that Bouchon Bakery is inside The Shops at Columbus Circle, I opted for a picnic with tasty food from this amazing eatery, complete with quiche, french bread and macaroons! Later in the day, I headed back inside to pick up a few dressier pieces to add to my outfit for champagne at A Voce with “A” before we headed out to our friend’s dinner party.

Overall, after perusing around all day, I would say that I noticed a strong theme of bright colors mixed and matched together, as well as classic pieces mixed in with trendy patterns and prints. I think the forecast for spring is going to be a bright and bold one and I can’t wait! xoxo
