I was on The Sartorialist today, catching up on the past few days worth of posts, and came across this cute girl. This photo was taken at Governor’s Island during the The annual Jazz-Age Lawn Party, which was this past Saturday and Sunday. I attended last year and had a blast, but sadly didn’t make it this time around. Maybe next year! If you haven’t been yet, I highly recommend you check it out!

Get the look: Stylin’ in stripes

Remember my friend Amanda with the super cool nerd chic glasses? Well, she is back and looking fabulous as usual. She has this knack to pull together outfits so effortlessly—never looks like she is trying too hard, but yet always manages to wow me with her creations. This ensemble is one of her simpler, laid back looks, but it is just as cute. I am a huge fan of stripes and I love the combination of gray and red together. Add a simple bangle, and either a pair of casual converse or dressier wedges and you are set to go. Plus, don’t you love that each item is $30 and under? Cute and recession-friendly! What’s better than that?!

Stylish in Stripes

I’ll say it. I am absolutely jazzed about this outfit that I saw on The Sartorialist. Not only is it simple and chic, not to mention her fabulous striped top, but I own a similar version of each item that she is wearing! Granted, her blazer with the thick lapel is cooler than mine and so is her zippered skirt, (note to self, get one immediately) but other than that, I can shop my own closet! And, seeing that I am currently a very active member of the Recessionista Movement, all I have to say is, hurrah!

Day 2: Beach day!

We awoke to another gorgeous day on the island and decided to spend most of our time on the beach reading and enjoying the sound of the waves crashing onto the sand. I finally got to try out my new striped bikini, which I was very happy with. But, once it struck 4PM, we hopped up and snagged a seaside view at one of the tables on the patio of the hotel to sip some happy hour wine and munch on appetizers. Yum. After dinner and a quick stop at our room we made our way back out onto the beach to enjoy the beautiful sunset. I got to indulge in wearing my bright white jeans with yet another striped item. This time, it was a lightweight sweater, which I paired with my go-to black blazer. As soon as I hit the sand I quickly rolled up my jeans and spent the rest of the sunset dancing around in the sand and doing cartwheels—my favorite.

Suiting up in stripes.

Hi hi! Guess what I bought today?! Yep, you’re looking at it! My very own striped bikini—and and you know how I love me some stripes—found at H&M, which I will promptly be putting on the minute I hit the beach in San Diego later this week. I can not wait. I am leaving Thursday afternoon to go meet up with my parents and we are going to celebrate my Dad turning 60 and my parents 35th anniversary! Anyway, I was so inspired by my lovely purchase that I created a beach-friendly outfit around it…click here to see! For the love of stripes.

This gorgeous sweater by APC–available at Creatures of Comfort— is a tad out of my price range, seeing that it is $223, but I am still allowed to dream and covet, right? Sigh. I have been trying to find a more affordable version elsewhere, yet am still searching, so if you have any leads shoot them my way! SPxx
