4 Easy Summer Hair Care Tips!

Summer hair care - christine cameron

Last March, I started my transition to becoming a blonde, and ever since I’ve been picking up tips on how to take care of my lighter locks. The last time I was this blonde, I was in college and I definitely didn’t take very good care of my hair, but now that I have the resources as well as great experts at my fingertips, I’ve made a pact with myself to actually do it right this time around. So with that said, I wanted to share a few summer hair care tips that I picked up from Elaine, the Senior Creative Director at the Sassoon Salon in New York!

Matrix Biolage Aqua Gel Conditioner

(This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Matrix. All opinions are 100% mine.)

Whenever I go into a salon to get my hair done, the stylist always comments on the fact that I have fine hair but a ton of it, which can be great because with the right product they can create a ton of volume and I can keep my hair styled without it falling flat in five minutes. But like I said, it all depends what product I use. The problem usually begins with my shampoo and conditioner, since anything too heavy immediately takes the “umph” out of my hair…

How To Get Glam Curls With Got2b Volumaniac!

Hi guys! Today’s post is a video I created in partnership with Got2b Volumaniac on how to get voluminous curls. It took me about 20 minutes and all you need are these three products and a curling iron!

Read more below to learn how to get the look!

Step 1: Start with wet hair and spritz Got2b Volumaniac Root Lifting Spray on your roots and work into hair.

Step 2: Next pump a small amount of Got2b Volumaniac Bodifying Mousse into your hands, rub between your palms and work into your hair starting at your roots making your way down to the tips.

Step 3: Rough blow dry your hair, which will create texture and volume.

Step 4: Then section off your hair and begin curling it with your favorite curling iron. I like my Conair wand from Target, but use whatever tool works best for you. Finger comb the curls to create some separation.

Step 5: Flip your head over and begin spraying your whole head with Got2b Volumaniac Bodify Hairspray.

Et voila! Your’e all done! You should now have the most voluminous curls ever! If you guys have any questions about this tutorial please leave me a comment below!

You can shop all the products here.

Thanks for stopping by and happy Friday! xo

Detox Whipped Dry Shampoo Foam from Drybar!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Drybar. All opinions are 100% mine.

My hair before using Drybar’s Detox Whipped Dry Shampoo Foam. Slightly flat with a hint of oil, some noticeable separation and in desperate need of a pick me up!

I love wearing my hair both straight and curly, so I wanted to show you guys that you can easily use this product on either kind of style without messing it up. Because I have fine hair, but a lot of it, I try not to wash my hair everyday because otherwise it can start to look limp and flat if it’s too “clean.” With that said dry shampoo has become my best friend – I rely on it to give my hair texture and keep it looking fresh. I promise, if you were to take a look into my bathroom cabinet, you would find a million bottles of different dry shampoos because I always love trying out different kinds to see which is my favorite. Case in point, I was very excited to partner with Drybar and try out their new Drybar Detox Whipped Dry Shampoo Foam since I am already a fan of their shops and other products! I love that Detox Whipped adds lift and body to my hair no matter if I’ve styled it curly or straight.

Here we go!

You just need a small amount – a little goes a long way! First shake it well. Then dispense a small amount into your palm and rub your hands together. Use your fingers to apply to the roots and massage gently until the foam disappears completely.

It’s nuts because it feels like you are putting mousse into your hair and are sure it’s going to mess up whatever hair style you have at the moment, but it doesn’t! In fact, it does the opposite and instead, the foam absorbs excess oils, leaving your hair feeling fresh and clean with no stickiness or crunchiness. As much as I have loved my traditional dry shampoo, I will say, I’m a Detox Whipped convert! I’m obsessed with how there is no powdery residue or inhalation of product when spraying it into my hair. Plus the Detox Whipped dry shampoo foam has a lovely fragrance, so your hair will smell great, just like it was freshly washed even if it’s been a few days. It can be your little secret!

Et voila! The finished look having used the product on both curly and straight hair! I can see such a visible difference in the volume and lift with the curls, and the clean and sleek look with the straight hair. What do you guys think? Are you dry shampoo fans? Would you try Detox Whipped dry shampoo foam? After testing it out and then using it almost everyday for about a week and a half, I can say that I highly recommend it! xo

A Photo Diary: On Becoming A Blonde

Christine Cameron of My Style Pill on going from a redhead to a blonde15It’s been quite the journey (over a year in a fact) from when I first decided to dye my hair a raspberry red color for a collaboration with L’Oreal (watch the YouTube video here) to then deciding to become a full-fledged blonde. But let’s back up a bit and start from the beginning…

Shades of Blonde

Christine Cameron of My Style Pill wearing a '90s sunflower dress 2Photo by Emily

I plan on writing a longer post about my total hair transformation from having raspberry red hair to being bright blonde very soon, but for now I just wanted to share these two photos from the past two days.

The top photo is my hair on Tuesday before heading to Arrojo to see my colorist Francesca. My roots were growing out and I felt like the blonde was looking a little brassy, so I wanted to get a refresh. We decided to do more highlights and tone it so that the blonde was on the cooler side, but still maintain some interesting dimension by working in my natural light brown throughout the highlights. She worked her magic to create the final product below, which was taken yesterday, and I am so happy with how my hair turned out! I highly recommend you guys going to see Francesca at the Williamsburg location if you live locally – she’s pretty freaking awesome.

I am flying to Texas today for my dear friend and old roommate’s wedding so I’m signing off a bit early this week, but I hope you all have a fantastic holiday weekend with whatever you have planned! xo

#NakedState With Herbal Essences

MyStylePill Herbal Essences Collage1In this day and age, we are so connected to our phones, devices, computers –you name it, we are probably on more than one at a time! Admittedly, I can find it very hard to turn everything off for fear of missing out, but luckily, I grew up with my Mother and Grandmother who taught me the importance of mindfulness and meditation, and how beneficial it is to find the time to strip away the superficial and focus on the authentic.

Because an amazing thing happens when I strip away the noise, the clutter and the commotion of my everyday stress. I become present, live in the moment, and reconnect with my true self again, allowing my creativity to flow and for greatness to happen, in whatever form it might be.

Now for a little segue, you all remember the past Herbal Essences commercials (the shower scenes haha) and how good the products smelled, right? Well now the brand is introducing two new collections – Herbal Essences Naked Clean & Refresh, and Herbal Essences Naked Smooth & Soft Shampoo and Conditioner, which are both free of heavy residues, parabens or dyes.

They approached me about working with their the latest collection, which is focused around who you are in your most pared down, #nakedstate of mind, and because of everything I just mentioned above, I was intrigued to experience and learn more.

I started by spending an afternoon with the very talented Celebrity Hairstylist Charles Baker Strahan who taught me all about the Naked Collection and walked me through all the steps needed to create the beachy, loose waves I wanted. Because my hair is fine, he used the Herbal Essences Naked Clean & Refresh Shampoo and Conditioner, which smells of strawberries and mint, to cleanse and brighten it before styling.

Now I’ll walk you through our process!

The Naked Volumizing Soufflé (the mousse) is best to put in your hair when it’s really wet and fresh from the shower. Apply at the roots and then work it towards the ends. Twist your hair to wring out the excess moisture in your hair, which will also help to more evenly distribute the product through your hair.

Next, because I have naturally curly hair and it can tend to get a bit frizzy around the hair lines, Charles recommended combing the hairline area and tucking it behind my ears to smooth out the cow licks and extra curly areas. He suggests also using a bobby pin or a flat clip to hold it in place to allow the hair to air dry.

Save your hair styling for the last part of getting ready. He explained to me that the heat is what changes the shape of hair, so doing too much in the way of styling with a blow dryer is sort of a waste in energy.

Tip: A rough dry can do the trick because you only need the hair to be around 90% dry.
Charles blew out my edges with a large natural bristle brush and a diffusing nozzle, then added loose waves with an iron.

Tip: If you reshape wave or curl with irons or wands, hair is much less likely to frizz and you can also comb or brush it to integrate waves and/or build body or volume.
Lastly, he spritzed my hair with the Naked Flexible Hold Spritzer to hold waves and scrunch it in to create a beachy look.

Tip: Using the Naked Dry Shampoo is a great way to add extra body and volume too!

MyStylePill Herbal Essences Collage4After my hair consultation and styling session with Charles, I headed to a meditation session at ISHTA Yoga to learn some tips on how to quiet the mind and center the body through breath and movement. It was a lovely mix of yoga and meditation, and I found it so amazing and calming to sit quietly for an hour with no phone. I came out of the session so relaxed and refreshed, plus my hair totally stayed in tact while moving through my yoga flow.MyStylePill Herbal Essences Collage5Then later on in the evening, I went with my dear friend Liz to Rockwood Music Hall for an 8PM showing of the band Bellehouse. I love live music and this New York-based group is a mix of Old Time and folk revival with touches of Celtic, classic rock, soul and Motown to name a few. It was a great day overall and I loved getting in touch and taking time for myself to enjoy things that bring me happiness. MyStylePill Herbal Essences Collage6MyStylePill Herbal Essences Collage8 MyStylePill_HerbalEssences-1MyStylePill_HerbalEssences-3MyStylePill_HerbalEssences-2

4 Simple Ways To Style Your Hair

unnamed

Today’s post and video is all about four simple ways to style your hair in no time with minimal product just by changing up your part or pulling your hair up off your face into a high bun. I also think you can easily update your everyday look just by by playing with different lipstick shades. A red versus a bright pink versus a nude color can transform your face.

But back to the hair styles at hand! When it comes to hair parts, often times, women part their hair on auto-pilot and if you’ve been doing it the same way for years, changing your part can update your whole look! And whenever I really want to switch it up, I whip my hair off my face and style it in a high bun. I immediately feel sophisticated and chic.

Watch my newest video to see how I quickly and easily achieved these four easy styles! xo
