We spent this past Sunday on a rooftop in Brooklyn, complete with blowup pools, a DJ, a bar and taco stand, and some incredible New York City views. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves, but needless to say we had an absolute blast.

I have always liked mixing patterns (okay maybe not when I was 16 and everything had to match) but lately I have been working this Zara Tarez clutch in with almost everything I put on. It’s funny because the pattern is already mixed-matched itself, but still manages to transition nicely with whatever it’s paired with. I also like the two different animal prints in the scarf and clutch. They go together, but aren’t too “matchy, matchy.” And of course I had to add stripes into the mix. In my book, you can never go wrong with a good stripe.
Happy almost Thanksgiving! I hope you all have lovely, festive and family-filled fun holiday ahead of you. I’m not able to get back home this year, so A and I are going on a dinner date just the two of us…we might even sneak in a late movie if we feel the urge. Wild, I know.

Ralph Lauren Sweater / H&M Button down / Banana Republic Skirt / Urban Outfitters Flats / RayBan WayfarersI’ve been working in an office all week having to wear fairly professional/corporate outfits, so I decided to snap a few shots of what I wore yesterday, just because it’s pretty different from what I normally post on the blog. My best friend from college is visiting and she was kind of enough to snap these at the end of a very long day. I actually really like this outfit, albeit the sweater is a bit chunky and not the most flattering, but I love the boatneck collar, rich navy color, and thick knit just the same. You can’t see it too well, but I layered with a wide-checked, light gray/white button down for some variety. As for the skirt, in my mind, you can’t go wrong with a simple, clean cut, light gray wool skirt because it will last you forever. Case in point: I’ve had this one since 2002!
During Fashion Week, I managed to sneak away one night to spend a much needed evening with one of my best friends who had just flown in from Seattle, and a bunch of our close friends for a girly girl’s night. Upon arrival to my friend Patricia’s apartment, I was immediately handed a glass of wine and a bag with a few pieces of clothing that she was giving away. At the end of the night, I walked out with a new pair of Michael Kors strappy sandals and this awesome, retro acid wash micro mini skirt!

I wasn’t sure if I could actually pull off this skirt, but a few days later, on a lazy Saturday, I decided to bite the bullet, shimmied into it and went strolling through Soho with my good friend Lex in search of a yummy brunch.
This skirt will always remain a statement piece, but when paired with an oversized solid-colored top and basic flats, the “loudness” of this mini is taken down a few notches, and becomes quite wearable. It also has a stretchy waistband, which bodes well when eating a big brunch. :)

The lovely Kim of eat.sleep.wear came to New York for Fashion Week and stayed with me for a night. We had the best time just being girly and talking about life and fashion. One nice thing about being friends with fellow fashion bloggers (among many other awesome qualities) is that they truly understand the whole photography side of the job. After our yummy breakfast of eggs and coffee, we headed over to my favorite street around the corner. It’s super quiet, old fashioned and is full of quaint stoops and ivy-covered brick. Kim patiently snapped a ton of photos until they were just right. She really is the best.

Loving the woven details on these flats. The shape of them sort of reminds me of the shoes that Ducky wore in Pretty in Pink, except his are white with buckles.

This weekend, I am headed out to Rocky Bay, where I will hang by the water, eat lots of yummy food, and spend time with friends, family, and lots and lots of dogs. I hope you all have a happy and safe holiday weekend.

Happy rainy Monday! Today I plan to stay inside and work at a coffee shop all day to avoid the rain. Sometimes it’s nice when the weather is a little off because it forces me to get work done that I might otherwise put off if the weather was super nice and sunny.
Anyway, last Friday I mentioned I was going to Macbar with my friend Becky, who writes the very funny blog, Reblogged. If you haven’t checked it out you should. She shares fun photos, witty text, and is all around a fantastic friend and person. We had a lovely time talking blog-shop while munching on rich mac ‘n cheese, which by the way, came in an actual macaroni-shaped container. That is, if you ordered a medium, which I did. Oh and I also got the mac shroom and Becky got the four cheese. Both really good. Go if you get a chance!
As you can see, the little yellow flowers in my skirt matched the decor. Unintentional I assure you, but kind of awesome nonetheless.

My outfit. A little bit of a remix going on here…I wore this shirt here and the skirt here. My belt matched the color of the macaroni dish exactly. So, of course we had to take a photo, or three.
