I kicked off my weekend a little early and had brunch with Helena on Friday. We shared baked eggs, fries and of course, avocado toast at Cafe Gitane. Afterward, we headed uptown to take care of some errands and eventually made our way to Columbus Circle in the early evening, where we treated ourselves to happy hour at Bouchon Bakery’s cafe.

Detail shot of an outfit post to come.
My first year in New York I lived on the Upper West Side, but since moving downtown I don’t get up to that area much anymore. However, on Saturday a friend and I ventured up to the Upper East Side and ended up walking through Central Park to the west side. The weather was amazing and it felt so good to be outside. We ended up grabbing dinner at a restaurant on Columbus and then treated ourselves to gooey, chocolate cookies from Levain.

I love Ten Degrees in the East Village. For those of you that live in New York, have you ever been? They have a great happy hour on Sundays and just an overall fun vibe. I met a good friend here on Sunday for a catch up session over salads and french bread.

Hope you all had a great weekend and got out and enjoyed the warm weather. Here’s to a great week! xo

I’ve been wearing some version of this look over the past week in order to avoid living in sweatpants, a fleece and a sleeping bag jacket. When it’s this cold outside, it can take a lot of effort to get dressed in something other than what I just mentioned, especially if your office is your living room. But, I’ve learned it’s all about layering and making sure your head, neck and hands are covered. I don’t leave the house without gloves, a scarf and a hat and I always layer with one of these vests or jacket under whatever coat I’m wearing. I’m telling you, they make all the difference. Definitely in-vest in one. Ha. Get it?

I seem to really be on a burgundy kick right now. Whether it’s tights, hats, bags or socks even, I love the color and have been incorporating it right and left in my recent outfits. I’ve been dying to pull together all of my favorite wine-colored accessories into one look, and this was the perfect opportunity.

Brown, like black tights, are a perfect go-to color for everyday wear, and are just as critical to a well-rounded wardrobe. I built this outfit around legwear, and these Super Opaque Tights in rich Espresso and Essential Boot Socks in Deep Burgundy, both from No nonsense, helped me stay cozy in my classic denim cut-offs. You can’t beat this great boot sock, especially when they’re so versatile and the perfect thickness; not too thick or too thin, but just right to wear with an ankle bootie. Paired with a cream sweater and camel coat, this outfit is perfect for me who’s always on the go.

These photos were taken last weekend when it was much warmer outside and I was comfortable in just a sweatshirt and a leather jacket. Sigh. Spring, where are you?
P.S. Click below to see a few more photos of my favorite pieces I saw during my visit to the Robert Rodriguez collection at Coterie last weekend…

This past weekend, my best friend from college came to visit. We spent our time strolling around outside, even though it was freezing out, because it was still a beautiful and sunny day. But after a while, the chilly temperatures got to be a bit much so we retreated inside to warm places, which included brunch at my favorite diner, manicures at my neighborhood nail salon and eventually my couch, where we ate pizza and watched TV. It was exactly what I needed. Here are a few photographs I took from this past weekend. Hope you enjoy!

southern charm post  Happy Monday! Did everyone who lives on the east coast survive the freezing weather this weekend? I spent most of Saturday cuddled up on the couch, watching movies and eating pizza with my best friend from college who was here visiting from Seattle. Because, when it’s 18 degrees outside, I find it more relaxing to browse the web looking at outfits I can wear in 70-degree weather and planning mini trips to warmer climates, instead of venturing outside and freezing my face off.
Luckily, I’m getting a little reprieve from this cold snap and heading to New Orleans in just over two weeks. (I will be hosting a fun styling workshop while I’m down there but more on that later!) Whenever I head to the south I find that my style steers away from anything black and edgy, and instead I’m drawn to more girly, feminine pieces in pastels. I think it has to do with the fact that when I’m down in Nola, there are brightly painted houses, remnants of Mardi Gras decorations and amazing architecture everywhere you look. It truly inspires me in a way different than any other town or city I’ve visited.
The south is a charming and special place, and I hope to keep exploring and visiting other towns such as Nashville and Charleston sooner than later, but in the meantime, in lieu of my upcoming trip, I decided to create a few outfits that I could see myself wearing while I’m down in the bayou.

We’re back to a cold spell here in New York but with March just around the corner I can feel a hint of spring in the air. Last weekend’s warm temperatures were a tease and left me thinking about inspiration for my spring wardrobe. But the thing is, transitioning between seasons can be tough – I’m tired of layering on the same winter sweaters, and excited to break out some of my spring favorites. These Super Opaque Tights from No nonsense are becoming a wardrobe staple for me and are the perfect secret weapon for winter to spring dressing. With a great fit and soft feel, they provide a great canvas to show off my favorite skirts, like this metallic beaded mini; and at such a smart price, I can afford to pick them up in a ton of fun, bright colors like this jewel tone pair in Concord.

Fashion is all about taking risks – whether it’s an unexpected texture or a color combination that feels spontaneous. If you are looking for a versatile tool to inspire your next closet brainstorm, you can pick up your own pair for just $7 at Walmart or your local drugstore. Follow No nonsense on Facebook and Pinterest for all the latest news and updates on their stylish and affordable legwear.

Today is the last day of the Shopbop sale (save up to 30 percent by using the code BIGEVENT14 at checkout) so I thought I would do a little roundup of what I’m loving right now. Usually when there is a big online sale like this, I end up stocking up on my favorite basics, or things I know I will wear on a regular basis. For me, it’s usually a lot of gray or white tees, denim of some kind and neutral or gold accessories. Happy shopping! xo
