I stopped into Forever 21 the other day and came across the perfect pair of high-waisted shorts. I was really taken by the detailing on the front, plus the material is super light with a breezy-like quality, which will be perfect for the humid weather I have to look forward to on Thursday when I fly back to New York. But, in the meantime, before I head back to a very steamy city, I am going to enjoy wearing them here, where it is a comfortable 75 degrees sans the humidity.

By the way, do you guys recognize this top? If you do, you would remember it in the form of a romper that I wore here, and tucked in, here and here. As much as I loved it as it was, I found that I wasn’t wearing it as much as I should be. So, I decided to partake in a little DIY project and ended up turning it into a cute little crop top.

Once again, I resorted to a very similar combination as the outfit that I posted yesterday. I just can’t seem to get enough of this type of look lately! It’s so simple and easy, plus I really am a sucker for lots of layering.

It’s official. I am 29 today, making it my last year as a “twenty-something.” At first I was a little ovewhelmed with this daunting number, but then, a very wise person recently told me that I shouldn’t fear getting older. That instead, I should embrace it and feel lucky that I am another year wiser. I decided that I fully agree.

I’ve been looking forward to this weekend for so long, and it’s finally here! Please bear with me as I effervesce for a moment…

A few of the reasons I am so happy:

*It’s my Birthday (!!!) and I get to celebrate with some of the people I love the very most, including my parents, which hasn’t happened since 2004, due to the fact that I moved to New York.

*My best friend from grade school is getting married tomorrow!

*A very special person in my life took the time to fly out to Seattle to be with me for both of these happy occasions.

Needless to say, I am one lucky girl.

After sleeping many hours, playing endlessly on the floor with Barnaby, and eating lots of my parent’s yummy cooking, I finally rejuvenated myself enough to actually get out of my pajamas, get dressed and take a few outfit photos. I could take all the credit for this outfit, but instead I will tell you what really happened…

Whenever I come home, my Mom and I always zip up to her closet and she whips out all the new, fun items she’s picked up here and there. She doesn’t shop a lot, but when she does, she is excellent at it—knows how to spot the sales—and has impeccable taste—always looks fresh and flawless.

This outfit came together without any real direction. Meaning, I didn’t purposely try to put something together. Instead, my Mother sort of dressed me. I was lounging around in yet another trapeze tank top, and as I was sitting on the bed, she tossed me her new Hue jeggings that she found super cheap at Nordstrom. I have written about this trend, yet never tried it myself, and was happily surprised with how they fit. Next, she suggest I try on her new white button down shirt. Still half asleep, I absentmindedly try it on over the tank, still wearing the jeggings. She assures me that she likes what she sees, so I shuffle in front of the mirror and realize I am very pleased as well.

Needless to say, I immediately ran downstairs and photographed this look before I even gave myself a chance to change back into my sleep mask and nightgown. I’ll be honest, all I did to partake in this look was paint my lips red, tossle my hair, and slip on my new necklace and wooden wedges. Happy rainy Monday everyone. What did you do this weekend? I spent my time taking lazy naps by the Hudson, listening to good music, taking more cat naps, and wandering around the city. Sunday night, we cooked up a yummy homemade meal of King salmon, sauteed potatoes and a light strawberry spring salad. I even made a (relatively healthy) Fat Elvis for dessert!

Yesterday, despite a very rainy Seattle, I spent the morning with my Aunt down at Pike Place Market. We caught up over croissants and coffee, before I met up with my good friend Nicole, to do some downtown shopping. We eventually headed over to U-Village for lunch and more shopping, which is when I scored this dress at H&M for a whopping $20. I was thrilled, to say the least, at the gentle price tag but mostly with how when I swirled around in the dressing room, I felt like I was a living watercolor painting. Both my Aunt and Grandmother (on my Dad’s side) are talented artists, but my Grandmother mostly paints beautiful watercolors. This dress definitely reminds me of the many hand painted cards I have received from her over the years.

So, seeing that I packed only a few pairs of shoes this trip, I didn’t have a huge selection to choose from. But, I found that the clogs worked out nicely with the 60s/70s vibe I had going on. I felt like I should be hosting a backyard garden party, complete with cocktails, pigs in a blanket, a swimming pool, and of course the two pink flamingos you see in the background…
