ARCHIVE: Just For Fun

This past weekend it was so frigid outside, it felt impossible to take any photographs of what I wore because it might require me to remove my puffy coat. So instead I snapped a few pictures from how I spent my Saturday, which included wandering around the West Village in the snow, stopping for brunch and window shopping.

Extra Virgin – one of my favorite places for brunch.

I love how they serve coffee in something that is reminiscent of a Coleman camping mug. Their mimosas are pretty great too.

I’m funny when it comes to the way I prefer my eggs benedict. I know it’s way off, but I ask for them to scramble the egg and put the sauce on the side. It still tastes amazing. :)

Love a retro bike with a wicker basket.

Pretty sure these little beauties were fake, but they still added a dose of cheerful to an otherwise dreary front stoop.
Hope you all had a warm and relaxing weekend! xo

I teamed up with BaubleBar to be a part of their first blogger style off, where myself, along with five other bloggers were asked to style up this necklace any way we wanted. I love BaubleBar (who doesn’t?!) so of course I said yes! The contest ends today, so if you like how I styled this bright and punchy necklace, vote for me here! Thanks for your support!

Next Friday I am headed back to London to see my best friend, and it got me thinking about all my favorite places I visited when I was there last May. One place in particular always makes me smile. We discovered it when we decided to hop on the tube, head over to Notting Hill to spend a lovely afternoon wandering around with no plan in mind, and ended up on Portobello Lane. It was idyllic to say the least.
While window shopping all the cute boutiques, I spotted a store across the street that had the most adorable dresses and accessories in their window. I dragged my best friend over and within five minutes I was in the dressing room with a handful of tops and skirts. I was successful in my endeavor and happily walked out of the shop with two silky pleated calf-length skirts.
I was over the moon because we were headed to Paris for the weekend and I couldn’t wait to style up my new purchases and photograph them for the blog. For those of you that have been reading My Style Pill since last year, you will mostly likely recognize both photos (shown above). I received many requests as to where one could find these skirts, so if you would like to check out their website, head to Appletree Boutique and see more of their adorable skirts here!
I cannot wait to visit Appletree Boutique again. It is the kind of store, at least for a fashion enthusiast, where you walk in and instantly feel happy, girly, excited and the overwhelming need to own everything in sight. From their scarves to their silky blouses and skirts to their friendly staff, I would highly recommend you make your way to the shop if you’re ever in London Town.
Cheers! xo
P.S. Check out the cool site, Shopikon, for more awesome shopping locations in London, New York, Barcelona and Vienna!

With the all the rain we’ve been experiencing, it’s been a bit tough to snap outfit shots, so I thought I would do a fun blast from the past and revisit these photos that the talented and lovely Jamie Beck took of me last year. Click here to see the original post (and a few more photos), which I posted on this day last year, to read more about this shoot. I still feel so lucky that I was able to work with Jamie one on one, just because. Keiko did my makeup, which was awesome, and the three of us just bounced around the West Village for a day of fun. It was such a blast. Thanks again you two! xo

I’d like to first start out by dedicating this post to my very best friend who I met when I was 7-years-old.  As little girls we both loved watermelon Bubble Yum – the chewing gum pieces were obviously good, but the kind from the “tape” dispenser was the real jackpot. Actually we loved watermelon-flavored anything – Lip Smackers, Jolly Ranchers, you name it, we loved it. So when Paige Denim sent me these brighter than bright pink highlighter shorts, I was over the moon. The color immediately reminded me of my youth, faux watermelon flavor, and everything that made me happy at age 8. xo
P.S. Wishing my Grandmother Ruthie a very Happy 96th Birthday! Love you!

Home for the holidays Anthropologie Dress / Nine West Pumps and Clutch / F21 Earrings / Revlon Lipstick in Sable (worn here)

With the holidays upon us, I was excited to team up with Nine West for a fun little segment that I’m calling, “Home for the Holidays.” Seeing that I am headed back to Seattle in a week, I began thinking of all the festive parties and events coming up. There is one in particular, which is being thrown by my parents as a little welcome home soiree for me and “A” and I am really looking forward to it. Nothing over the top, but it will definitely be a good time, as my Mother is the ultimate hostess and is a genius at creating subtle yet creative details all throughout the house. I have seen her do this for many years now and always wonder if I will ever have the patience and talent to pull it off.

So, seeing that this little party that is quickly approaching, I decided to create my ideal ensemble based around my new Nine West pumps and sparkly clutch. I love this dress (it’s definitely on my wish list!) and decided to keep the outfit playful and creative by mixing patterns. Then to ground the outfit, I kept the rest of the look chic, by opting for black accessories and a moody “Sable” lip by Revlon. Here’s to the holidays! xo

Here are a few entertaining and decorating tips from my Mom:

~ Think about lighting. Candles add their own special touch and white italian lights wrapped holly inside a glass bowl instantly add a festive touch.

~ Always play music in the background but don’t let it overpower the party.

~ As for food, make sure there is something there for everyone. Serve things that are good for your guests but that taste good too. I always invest in quality cheeses, breads, fruits and veggies. Hot soups are fun too!

~ Most importantly, make sure everyone feels welcomed and that the atmosphere is celebratory. During the holidays, it’s all about getting together with loved ones, enriching relationships and embracing the season.

Thanks Mom!
