Have I ever mentioned that I LOVE the flavor grape? Probably not, but this outfit reminds me of grape Bubble Yum gum. YUM! Anyway, these vibrant tights arrived in my mailbox today, along with a few other awesome colors, from the lovely company, We Love Colors. Imagine my excitement when I pulled them out of the bag. Thank you Heather!
So, I actually am wearing this outfit to a meeting this morning, that may potentially have a very exciting outcome (fingers crossed), in which I will of course keep you updated as I learn more. So, wish me luck! (See you can wear bright tights to meetings…sometimes.)
Anyhoo, I get a lot of questions about how to wear specific items, like scarves, belts etc. and most often, how exactly to wear colored tights. So, I decided to start a little column called “How To Wear” which will be a couple of posts at a time—all about the same type of item—coupled with a little description, along with photos on how I would personally wear it, and my tips on how you can too!
So, without further adieu, I give you the first…
HOW TO WEAR: Colored Tights
What I’m Wearing: We Love Colors Nylon/Lycra MicroFiber Solid Color Tights in Violet
How I’m Wearing Them: For these bright purple tights, I started by scanning my closet, tights in hand, when my eye caught “splurge dress” I bought from Urban Outfitters. (Looks like this is also a remix post as well. Click here and here to see how I’ve worn it in the past!) I loved how the tights and dress together created a monochromatic look, but decided it needed a little pop of something to break it up so that I didn’t look completely like a large grape. So, I opted for black as the contrasting accent color, and made sure that I didn’t veer away from that when picking all the other pieces of the outfit…i.e. blazer, belt, bag, shoes, which helped in keeping the whole ensemble looking nice and simple.
How You Can Do It Too: When wearing colored tights, especially your first time around, which believe me, can be super intimidating if you aren’t used to it, I would suggest trying this monochromatic technique, which still looks eclectic and different without looking too “matchy-matchy.” By sticking with one main color on both your legs and dress/skirt/shorts, I find that it’s a great way to still draw attention to your newly brightened gams, but in a subtler way. Once you’ve mastered feeling comfy in bright tights, it’s then time to move on to starker contrasts…I see mint tights, and stripes in the future…stay tuned!
